Bath born local Richard Fenton and Texas born Katherine Fenton opened the Firehouse Rotisserie in the spring of 1994. Richard has had decades of experience as a chef providing catering for Hollywood celebrities.  Together they decided to bring a taste of Southern California to a quiet side street in Bath and have been popular with locals and tourists ever since.

Due to the size and placement of the state of California, it benefits from a uniquely Mediterranean climate and is responsible for nearly half the US grown produce.  In addition to wine production, for which it is world famous, Californians grow fruits and vegetables found in Italian, French and Middle Eastern countries, such as olives, dates, figs, and of course, avocados. Furthermore,  being coastal, California draws Pacific Rim/ Asian influences and as well as considerable influence from its proximity to Mexico, at the southern border,  where the incorporation of these spices and native dishes are part of standard Southern California fare, from simple street food to top class restaurants.  These elements combine in a way which creates the eclectic blend of flavors we call California cuisine.  Above all, California cuisine is about fresh, vibrant colours and great tastes.

Undeniably, the centrepiece of our restaurant is our Rotisserie.

We use a genuine French cast iron (shiny red!) Grande Flamme Rotisserie from Rotisol, the premier providers of rotisserie equipment.

The reason this particular method of cooking makes meats so delicious is that it allows for a unique self-basting action which delivers and even and juicy spit roast in just under an hour.

In addition to our French Herb, Texas Spice and Garlic Cuban Rotisserie chicken dishes we offer a daily rotisserie special such as Coriander and Mint Stuffed Rotisserie Leg of Lamb or Apple and Sweet Onion Rotisserie Loin of Pork, or whatever  Chef is inspired to cook that day.

At the Firehouse Rotisserie we have a small but wonderfully accessible wine list that largely reflects new world wines which we have discovered work particularly well with our food.  However, no California Cuisine restaurant would be complete without some very special California wines. Two wine producers we especially love are Bogle Winery, which produces our ever-popular, The Phantom, as well as a luscious Viogner, and J.Lohr Winery from Monterey, which provides us with out delicious, light and fruity red Wildflower or the gorgeous oaky Arroyo Vista Chardonnay.

We pride ourselves on keeping our wine list very reasonably priced to encourage our customers to take a few risks and try a bottle of something amazing and good value, too.
